This is the World Bank’s business consulting report focusing on the small business environment in Zimbabwe in Sub-Saharan Africa. The purpose of this report will find out the main issues of constraints which are around the growth and welfare of small business environment, simultaneously are going to provide suggestions to improve the small business environment.
This report will discuss into three parts, firstly, it should explain the definition of small business and overview of the small business context. Secondly, the issues of constraints include inflation, human resources, access to finance, poor infrastructure, and international competition which around the small business environment will be examined. Finally, it should summarise the main points of the report and provide the realistic recommendations.
Sisimayi (2002) noted that a function of SME sector will contribute to the socio-economic development like job creation, promotion of entrepreneurship and social stability of any country around the world. Many countries in the developing and developed worlds have promoted the growth of SME sector.

Small business statistics in developed countries such as Australia, according to Small Business and Independent Contractors Fact Sheet (2010) defined that small business is less than 20 employees in Australia. From the data of June 2007 can be showed, “There are approximately 1.93 million active small businesses (1,927,590) in Australia, representing 96 per cent of all businesses (2,011,770).”By the end of 2008, the employment in Australia small business is around 5.1 million people, making up about half of private sector employment.
