‘Asian’ Parents

Most Americans know that kids who have Asian parents are strict. Right off the bat if anyone asked an Asian teenager how their parents are, most of them would say “strict” in less then five seconds. Unlike Asian parents, American parents are lenient, easygoing, and very understanding. So why aren’t Asian parents like American parents? The way people are raised in Asia is completely different from how they are raised in America. For example, with American parents, most kids get grounded or their phone taken up; with Asian parents, kids gets beaten. Some people might say that is child abuse, but that’s the way kids were raised in Vietnam. From personal experience, since Vietnamese kids are raised in a strict environment they grow up to become successful and independent.

Most Vietnamese people in the United States are very successful, but how? Most likely it’s how the parents raised their kids. Growing up Vietnamese was amazingly tough. For one, Vietnamese people had to learn two languages and cultures at the same time. Two, growing up Vietnamese in the United States was a consent battle. When Vietnamese kids try to grow up in America they started becoming Americanize from their surroundings, but they still had their parents raising them the way they were raised in Vietnam. For instances, when it came to school, Vietnamese kids had to make A’s on his or her report card every six weeks no matter what. If they did not get an A they would get a beaten. American parents teach their kids to do the best they can, Vietnamese parents teach their kids to be the best no matter what. Most Vietnamese parents are like this because they came to the United States to get away from the Vietnam War. Parents wanted their kids to get the best education and life they didn’t get to have. They didn’t get to experience the education American kids got. Since the Vietnamese parents didn’t get the best education, they push their kids to be number one since they had the opportunity to get the best education.
