Friends, teachers scholars of ISSA I stand before you supposedly selling myself as part of this speech so you could vote for me as your leader in the SRC, but I don't want to make this about me. Being part of SRC is not about who I am - it's about representing every student in this school. As a representative of the students at the international school of South Africa, I will listen to YOU tell ME about YOU, not the other way around. I will listen to what you like and don't like about being a student here, and I'll take YOUR story to the staff, not mine. If you want to know more about me, feel free to come and find me around the campus and say hello. I'm not here to talk about me. I'm here to talk about ISSA and what WE, the students, can do to make this a better place.
This school has 6 values.
- Respect for all
- Hard Work
- Honesty
- Social Awareness
- Responsibility
- Compassion
Well, I respect those values. Who wouldn't? You could only be inhuman to say these 6 values aren’t the foundation of our future and we shouldn't try to uphold them at all times. That's why they're called 'values' - because they're valuable. Being respectful to each other, to the staff, to the school, and to the community - that's important. Trying to achieve excellence - well, why try at all if you're not going to try and reach the sky? Responsibility, Compassion ? Of course! But let's talk about honesty, because that's the most important value of them all. Without honesty, there is no respect, no compassion, no claims of working hard. Being honest is what lets us be better. As a student representative, I want you to be honest with me about school, so that I can be honest with the school about what we want, what we need, and what we want to change for the better, however in as much as I want to represent you to the management of the school the process is symmetrical as they( management) will also voice out their opinions through the SRC.
