Buddhism and Philosophy

After reading the book, we can know that from the development of Buddhist philosophy, it must experience from a simple philosophy of the universe and philosophy of life, then to the complex ontology, epistemology and methodology. In this process, the Indian Buddhist philosophy transfer from Hinayana Buddhist philosophy to Mahayana’s philosophy. Hence, Zen philosophy, Huayan Zong philosophy and Tiantai Zong philosophy are the products from Chinese Buddhist philosophy, which are the new development of Buddhist philosophy. But since the Buddhist philosophy has been interrupted in the development of Indian Buddhism, there is no more new theoretical system has been appeared because the Chinese Buddhist philosophy introduce the combination of ideas of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. After analysis the development between Indian Buddhist philosophy and Chinese Buddhist philosophy, there are some factors that may cause this situation to happen. Firstly, I think that in order to make sure the position of Buddhist philosophy in China, they had to integrate the different culture and develop it. On the other hand, they also need to seek for the opportunity to take action to absorb the thought of foreign literature, thus they can build up a new Buddhist philosophy system.
Hence, in the present situation, if Buddhist philosophy needs to be modernized as part of traditional Chinese philosophy, it must seek for the structure of a new theoretical system. Therefore, this requires the Buddhist community to extensively study the philosophy of East and West, they shall take initiative to integrate Western philosophy and the most important is the Buddhist community shall hold the attitude for the development of Chinese philosophy in the 21st century. From this to start to build up the a new system of Chinese philosophy, in order to make the philosophy of Buddhist as a new life in Chinese philosophy.
