As a devout Christian and a student, I believe that faith and learning are intertwined and very deeply rooted within each other. Our faith is based on what we have learned from others, it is derived from the compassion, understanding, and knowledge of those who have given us guidance. I understand that I am prepared to contribute to Pepperdine's mission and community because I myself have felt what it is like to be guided into a faith, to learn and understand the terms of my faith, and the importance of service towards our fellow man.
Growing up in a Christian family, my parents would always take me to church on Sundays and any other holy days. We would pray for our blessings, pray for the safety of our friends and family, and pray for our own future. During these times, I would always find myself questioning the importance of these prayers, never quite realizing what they meant to me. As an adolescent, I did not believe in a deity of any kind, I held onto my belief that seeing is believing. My parents would always drill it in me that I should adhere to some form of religion, but their warnings fell on deaf ears. As I grew older, I started to realize that my family and friends would not always be there for me to solve my problems, that they sometimes misguide me as much as I would have misguided myself.
