Environment, an International Issue!

ENVIRONMENT, AN INTERNATIONAL ISSUE!

Topic : Nowadays, environmental problems are too big to be managed by individual person or individual country. In other words, it is an international problem. To what extent do you agree or disagree? (October 4th, 2003)

I totally agree that for the sake of a stable future, there must have a consensus, particularly in environmental problems, amongst countries in the world for the following reasons.

In the midst of the globalization, we are witnessing or at least, hearing of ubiquitous prime ministers' visits to this country, that country daily on TV. Ultimately, many pacts and agreements were signed: foreign exchange burgeoned, relationships among countries enhanced more than ever. Nations' benefit was intertwined tightly with each other in the integration process. As a result, once the smallest problems occur in several countries, it's very likely that under other neighboring countries or even worse, a vast majority of them will suffer from the same problems under the domino effect. The same goes for environmental issues. The drastic increase in the emission of CO2 (carbon dioxide) from various types of humans' activities in some countries may cause air pollution initially. However, it is the crucial factor supporting global warming, which is later the culprit of droughts, storms, flood, disease, war, loss of bio-diversity and destruction of eco-system can be the worst effect of this. Governments suffer the consequences of diminished tourism and industrial profits, soaring energy, food and water demands, disaster cleanup and border tensions. Hence, countries in the world, if not concerting, might be hit by severe climatic changes one by one like dominos.

Moreover, the fact remains that environment is destroyed disastrously in poor nations, descending from lack of environmental awareness and government budget. Because
