Most Memorable Trip
I could not wait to go to New York City for All-Star weekend 2015 with my sister Aniysa and my cousin Chelsea. NBA All-Star weekend is a huge event that takes place in February every year with different basketball games. A time that means lots of basketball for some means epic parties for others. We headed out for the two hour drive from Philly to Brooklyn, where we were staying for the weekend. The ride there was long but eventful and sometimes a little scary with Chelsea behind the wheel. We listened to music, ate snacks and talked about all the fun we planned to have.
We arrived in New York City about 9’O clock Friday night to the city’s bright lights and freezing cold temperatures. I was excited and ready to enjoy my night in the city that never sleeps. As soon as we got in our hotel room we all began getting dressed for a night of fun. The room was filled with girl talk as we shared a few drinks. We called a cab to take us to the Liberty Theatre where rapper Rick Ross was hosting a party. When we arrived the line was wrapped around the corner.
“Oh my God, we’re going to be out here forever,” I exclaimed
Thankfully I was dressed warmly in a black turtleneck, black skinny pants and a long faux fur vest. Chelsea and Aniysa, were not dressed quite as warm. Fortunately for them, the line moved pretty fast and we got in the party in no time. It was a nice crowd inside, the music was great, and the drinks were overflowing. Needless to say I was enjoying myself. So much so that before I knew it I had fallen asleep in the club. I can’t even recall getting back to the hotel room. The next morning I woke up still a little fuzzy to lunch waiting for me.
“I can’t believe you fell asleep at the party last night,” Aniysa said.
“Me either. I’m kind of embarrassed,” I said with a laugh.
That night, which happened to be Valentine’s Day, we headed out for another fun night in the Big Apple. Everyone was talking about what was supposed to be the biggest party of the weekend, with Meek Mill and Nicki Minaj as the hosts. We headed to the venue which was packed. We got to the front of the line where we were told the event was sold out for those who didn’t have tickets. We ended up at The Sugar Factory restaurant in the Meatpacking District. The restaurant seemed to be filled with couples in love except for us, The Three Musketeers. The night was filled with laughter, good conversation, great drinks and good food. “It’s her birthday,” I announced to our waiter, pointing to Aniysa. Much to her dismay, he left and returned a short while later with a few other waiters to sing Happy Birthday. Hailing a cab turned out to be almost impossible. Realizing that none of the cab drivers wanted to take the trip to Brooklyn I decided to tell them our destination only after getting into the cab. We ended up paying double what the trip should have cost but given our attire and the frigid cold weather I decided not to put up an argument. The cab ride back to the hotel was hilarious and could have easily been a scene from HBO’s hit show “Taxicab Confessions.”
