“How to Start Up”
It’s finally a Saturday. You sleep in till about nine, which you consider to be really sleeping in since you wake up at five every morning. You get out of bed, walk over to turn off the fan you had blowing on you all night. You look in the mirror leaning against your white walls and realize you need to shower. Your hair is standing straight up and you have a little of that late night snack still in your teeth.
You have to get ready because you having lunch with your girlfriends and you need them to think you’re doing well or they will start bombarding you with life questions. So what if the guy you were with for five years broke up with you. You still know how to live, even if you still cry yourself to sleep every other night. You could show that today though. You need to show them that you don’t need him and that you are still taking care of yourself, at least that’s what they need to think.
You walk over and open up the door of your bedroom. You look down the hallway and all the other doors are closed. While walking down the hall, you can feel the carpet underneath your toes. The bathroom is straight across from the bedroom but you have to walk past all the other empty rooms. You open the door and head straight to the window. You open up the window, letting the cool spring air fill the room.
You turn towards the shower and turn on the water, pulling up the tab to turn on the showerhead. It spits water at first but after a few moments it has a constant stream. Looking at yourself in the mirror above the sink, you see all your flaws, wondering if it was because of them that he left you. Strip down, pulling your shirt over your head first then pulling down your shorts and underwear, taking one leg out at a time.
Again you look at yourself in the mirror and realize that your diet is actually working. The “don’t eat diet” that is. You step on the scale to prove that you’re right, you’ve lost about 10 pounds in about a week, which is around the same amount of days that you’ve been single. You open up the curtain, test the water temperature with your hand. Realize you almost forgot to grab a towel, which you constantly do. You open up the cupboard, reach in and grab the light blue towel on top. Reclose the door and throw the towel over a hook. Step into the tub, right foot first then left.
You stand under the flowing water for about a minute, completely drenching your hair. Grabbing your shampoo bottle, you see the ring on the tub from where the bottle is always placed. Ignore it, you squeeze the shampoo out into your hand and place in the same exact spot as always. You raise your hands up, scrunch the shampoo through your hair. Bubbles cover your hands and head. You then return under the flowing water and rinse the shampoo from your hair, the bubbles running down your body.
You grab the conditioner, again you see a ring on the tub from where it has been sitting. You squeeze the bottle having conditioner squirt out onto the palm of your hand. With the tips of your fingers you strum the conditioner through your hair. Without washing out the conditioner you grab the loofa and body wash. You open the cap, pouring the contents onto the loofa.
