HOW YOU HEARD ABOUT NJIT AND WHY YOU APPLYING FOR THE PROGRAMME

Actually during the second year of my university education at New Jersey City University, I had the opportunity to be assisting an aunt of mine (my mother’s sister). She was a private actuarial consultant by profession who performed annual pension and post-retirement medical valuations, retiree healthcare, and retiree life insurance benefits for a variety of clients and was dying of Cancer and at that very age, I became an important part of my auntie’s life because all she said repeatedly to me was “Nana thank you for being there for me especially now that I am dying and my profession is dying too”. This challenged me to assure her I will do all I could under her supervision and training to help her to be able to deliver efficiently to her clients even on her sick bed. I ran almost all her errands, performing all clerical duties and especially assist her help people (especially church members) file for their taxes without charging ‘nothing’.

I got so attached to her, loved her and then she died at home of the dreadful cancer. She was very brilliant consultant and her funeral brought people from all over the country just to come and see her and say farewell simply because she had been good to them. This brought forth my interest in actuary. Frankly speaking, at that time, I regretted not studying actuary in school. I began to research and enquire on how to end up as an actuarial consultant. I remember going to see my course advisor who upon listening to me carefully told me “then you should have enrolled in a university with that program. Regrets filled my bones so much so that If wishes were horses, then my only wish then would have been for time to be reversed so I could begin my due diligence search for choice of university and program.
