1.1 Meet and greet. Rapport Building. Hypnosis misconceptions and myths.
• For the first impression in hypnotherapy settings with the client I conducted the
meet and greet moment to start establishing the right kind of rapport. As the therapist, I wanted to transmit an air of complete confidence, with a little empathy. This way the client was left in absolutely no doubt who was in charge and both our roles. He followed and allowed himself to start being guided towards a successful outcome. The premises were “together we'll sort this thing out”.
I believe the fact that the client is ‘led’ is important. This way we had already
two of the main aspects of hypnosis in place: Authority and Compliance.
• Once the client had settled in, I let him tell me his story. I wanted to make
him as relaxed and calm as possible by being relaxed and calm myself.
Of course, I knew already many details, but I wanted to allow the client to
vocalize the issue again. By observing the way the client sat, and spoke and
looked I wanted to start to analyze the tension or the emotions he carried
associated with the issue he was reporting.
I asked if he minded if I took a few notes and he agreed, but did not want to
disrupt rapport building with note taking and gave 100% of my attention at this
