If the dog is dangerous the owner is too
Can you see if a man is dangerous, just from looking at his dog? And is there a link between the illegal parked cars and the criminals? And is it mainly the poor people there is dangerous and criminals? Dangerous dogs are a global problem. It is the dog owner against the scared people, who both wants’ the society to be on their site. Causations like these are rest in the column by Simon Heffer, in with he clames that every dangerous dog has a dangerous owner.
Simon Heffer’s text deals with the British society and how dangerous people are to be found whilst looking at things like a dangerous dog or an illegal parked car. He claims that every dangerous dog has a dangerous owner, which makes us think that he raises a debate dealing with special kinds of dogs being banned, but actually he wants to tell us something about a specific class in our society: the underclass. To support his claim about every dangerous dog having a dangerous owner, he points out some different stories. The first one is about the little girl Ellie, who was killed by his uncle’s pit-bull. He uses the pathos by making this is a scaring factor. This makes us feel sorry for her and her family, and makes us think about which people having these kinds of breeds. Later on Simon Heffer discloses the fact that the uncle is a criminal, and that just support his claim further.
To give data to his claim, he involves the constable and his pronouncement.
Simon Heffer also uses logos as a rhetoric tool by asking the question “For- and please be honest with me- how many of you will have been surprised to learn, in the aftermath of this attack, that the owner of the dog, Kiel Simpson, was a convicted drugs dealer?”p. 1 l. 22, he uses this rhetorial question to prove that his claim about the underclass is right.
