Mercy Moves into Painful Situations
The second story in the dimensions of God’s merciful love is actually very heart breaking. At first, the story teaches us how Jesus would open himself to the pain of others that were suffering, and he would mourn with those who were also mourning. The story begins with the author saying how he volunteers by visiting dying children at a pediatric hospice program. He dresses up as “Francis” the clown to try and give the children happiness in their final days. This time, he goes to visit a boy named David who is dying from a brain tumor. At first, David is reluctant to interact with the clown, but when he warms up to Francis, it actually comforts him. He tells the boy that he came to see him because God wanted to let David know how much he loves him, and he understands why David is scared. But God will help him at his time of death into a new life. An hour after the author left, David died.
I thought what the author is doing for these kids is fantastic. Anybody, including the doctors and nurses could say “oh, this kid only has a day to live, who cares about him anymore” But the author knows that isn’t what Jesus would do. He knows that someone needs to be there to comfort the children and their families because if he doesn’t, who else will? This story is very inspiring and what the author is doing is a great thing for these families in need.
