Senior Trip: Punta Cana
I could barely sleep all night just knowing I was leaving in the morning to be in another country with my best friends. But as soon as I heard my alarm clock ring around three o’clock in the morning I jumped out of bed filled with excitement. I asked to myself, “Was today actually the day?” I looked out the window and it was still dark. I was surprised my whole family was up this early too, this was the first time I would be without my family and completely alone for a long period of time. It was a big deal because I was going out of the country too. I couldn’t believe the day was actually here! I was going on the trip of my life time with fourteen of my best friends.
As we all met up around three o’clock on a Monday morning each one of us were shoving a pushing to get out bags on the bus that would take us to the airport. Throughout the entire ride to the airport I kept looking out the window and saw all the big green signs and I just kept asking to myself “are we there yet?” As we all sang our favorite songs on the bus we figured it would make the time go faster. with loads of enthusiasm got us all pumped the whole ride there. I couldn’t wait to see the palm trees instead of the Connecticut pine trees. We couldn’t wait to let our feet sink in the soft silk
sand. Once we arrived at the airport, just stepped out of the plane I could instantly feel the hot damp air and was already dripping sweat. Once we left the airport I kept looking outside the window of the bus. It didn’t feel like I was really in the Dominican Republic with fourteen on my best friends before we went our separate ways and off to school. As we reached the resort, we were all filled with excitement pushing and shoving to get off the bus and to enjoy our vacation. As we waited in line at the front desk for our room keys we kept jumping up and down waiting to put our stuff down and run to the beach. Each girl was given a red rose from the concierge, we felt like we were on the Bachelor. Smelling the fresh air and just having freedom and no longer being stuck in our hot stuffy high school was the best feeling in the world. Once we got our room keys my friends Alexis, Shannon, and I ran quickly to see the room. We had no clue where we were going, everything looked the same, we finally found a nice young looking cleaning lady who could help us. We approached her and said, “how do you get to room 1156” she continued to look at us and finally gave us directions. Sadly, the directions weren’t in English, so didn’t really help. We continued on our way until we reached our two friends Mike and Dan who somehow already knew how to get around the resort like the back of their hand.
