These days stereotypes are everywhere, when you walk down a street you can see at least one stereotypical group. Individuality is a big issue these days as there are many pressure being put upon an individual to “fit in” with the others around them. For example, your likes and dislikes, your attitude, the way you look and how smart you are all factors which, more often than not, label you. For example if you’re really smart and wear glasses you’d be put into the group “nerd”, if you’re pretty dress well, have lots of friends and very outgoing, you’ll be categorized as “popular” etc.
Appearances for example are the main thing people will be judged for as it is the first thing that you usually see when you meet someone. In other instances, someone who is heavily tattooed may be judged by others as a dangerous person and people would usually stay away from those types of people, but in reality they may actually be shy or conservative and their tattoos are a way of expressing themselves. For instance, Joel Madden of Good Charlotte, judged by his outward appearance he looks like a “dangerous” person considering his many tattoos and his constantly changing hair. But as it was shown on The Voice Australia and on 60 minutes in Sunday the 21st of April he is a completely different person. His brother described Joel as shy and a very conservative person, and that if you give him a chance and don’t judge him by his outward appearance you will find out just how a charming and amusing guy he can be. It just goes to show that you cannot just judge a person from their appearance as you don’t really know who they really are and what their story is. It’s just like the saying “don’t judge a book by its cover”, because even if you don’t like the cover, when you give the “book” a chance and take time to read their story, you might just find yourself falling in love with it.
