The seaside hotspot becomes one of the most sought after locations in the UK in the summer months, offering a cheaper alternative to holidaying abroad.
Inspired by its Victorian heritage Llandudno hosts an annual 3-day extravaganza paying tribute to the Victorians in a carnival style fashion. During the carnival, the town centre is pedestrianised allowing classical shows and performances to encapsulate crowds.
The Great Orme tramway, built in 1904, offers astonishing views in it’s venture to the summit, where people are then allowed to take pictures and enjoy traditional welsh nibbles. Being the only tram type of its kind other than the famous San Francisco tram system, tourists flock the original victorian trams year after year.
Part of the Great Orme, ‘happy valley’ is flourished with picnic tables and parasols, creating a fun yet peaceful environment. There are several water features and stone sculptures in the area paving the way for leisurely exploration. For the more adventurous visitors their are hiking paths across the orme itself.
Possibly one of the biggest attractions of Llandudno are the copper mines, used primarily as a museum now, they host all of the original apparatus and technology that was used when the mines were still active. Uncovered in 1987, the mine is now thought to be the largest prehistoric mine in the world. Tours of the mine are available, giving both an enjoyable and educational experience.
Equally as impressive, the aerial cable car that runs the length of the Great Orme covers over one mile each way, allowing you to see amazing views in state of the art cable cars that have set a record for being the current longest aerial cabin lift in the United Kingdom.
Offering a breathtaking sandy beach, it is no surprise that Llandudno is such a popular destination for tourists throughout the year. Either enjoy basking in the warm sun or even take a trip on the award winning beach donkeys.
The beach is separated from the town by the promenade, a mile long stretch suitable for relaxing walks or to keep fit by running. The bandstand is occupied by the Llandudno orchestra every evening on weekdays throughout the summer, the promenade is filled with seating and performances are free to view.
