Anne Stuart 1702- 1714
Just before she ruled her Sister and he sister’s husband were ruling England.
When she inherited the throne in 1702 she was already 37.
She has been pregnant eighteen times in her live but only five of her babies were born. But still they all died very young and no of the children could rule England.
People use to say that she wasn’t as clever or as interested in ruling as her brother in law and Cousin William III.
Her main interests were to play dominoes and drinking brandy.
She relied on her close friends to run the country, and these friends were called her managers by the people of the country. But they had loads power.
But she had power over them as if they did some things or took some decisions that Anne didn’t like she would sack them.
Anne married her second cousin George of Hanover. Anne was devastated by her husband's death in October 1708
During her reign Parliament took away no more of the monarch’s power. But she never dared to dismiss Parliament as her father; James II had done years ago.
She was the first British monarch to see a Parliament for both England and Scotland. As in 1707, the Act of Union joined England and Scotland together as one country. Many Scots were unhappy with this; this is because they wanted to have separate country and their own monarch.
When she died in 1714 parliament decided that the throne should pass to the nearest Protestant heir as she did not have any children. George, Elector of Hanover was the next King.
