My Philosophy of Nursing
I believe nurses are the foundation of the health care system. Nursing combines a passion for science and the art of healing and caring for people into a unique profession. The profession of nursing focuses on promoting the overall health and well-being of each person and not just the illness. The function of a nurse extends far beyond physical assessments and medication administration. Nurses are present in every situation, from caring at the beginning of life to providing loving comfort to the dying patient.
Nurses work in collaboration with multiple interdisciplinary teams and patient family members in order to improve outcomes and meet the needs of our patients. Nurses also provide a caring environment that supports healing through therapeutic interactions that are in accordance with the standards of health and wellness as defined by each individual patient's belief.

For the past five years, I have been working as a Registered Nurse in an intensive care unit. This has given me the opportunity to use scientific and evidence based knowledge while gaining direct patient care experience. I also serve as a resource person for many members of the Jamaican community and other social settings. In evaluating these encounters, I have developed an overwhelming desire to implement change to healthcare by means of improved communication and preventive education.
