Classification of Vitamins
Vitamins are the organic compounds that are very important for the proper functioning of the body. They are essential for the body, in the absence of them the human body suffers a lot of vitamin deficiency diseases. When we here about vitamins we tend to associate them with good health. This is the reason why so many food manufacturers add vitamin supplements to the food. There are a lot of companies manufacture vitamin supplements. Most of the energy drinks and sports drinks are boosted with all the important vitamins. You can get them from the food you eat or from the vitamin supplements.in total you need 13 vitamins for good health. They were initially named in the alphabetical order they were discovered. Later they were categorized based on their solubility in water or fat.
The Vitamins are mainly classified into two groups. They are fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins.
Fat-soluble vitamins: Fat-soluble vitamins are vitamins that dissolve in fat. Fat can be easily stored in your body.so these vitamins can be stored within your fat. They can be accumulated in fat and are safe for later use. The fat-soluble vitamins are A, D, E, These vitamins are important for the normal functioning of your body.
Vitamin A: Vitamin A helps with in antioxidant maintenance of healthy skin, vision, and mucous membrane. This vitamin is found in carrots, fish liver oil, spinach, pumpkins, and papaya.
Vitamin D: Essential for the formation of bones and teeth, helps the body absorb and use calcium. This vitamin is found in fish liver oil, wheat germ oil, egg yolk and in the sun shine.
Vitamin E: Antioxidant, helps form blood cells, muscles, lungs and nerve tissue, boosts the immune system. This vitamin is found in
Vitamin K: Essential for blood clotting, found in cabbage, cauliflower and tomatoes.
Water-soluble vitamins: Water-soluble vitamins are vitamins that dissolve in water. They can freely circulate through our entire body along with water content. They can also be flushed out of the body in the form of urine. They cannot be stored in the body, need to be replaced daily.
