* Conradin was very sick because as stated in the story, the doctor said he will not live another 5 years of his life here on Earth because of his illness. Thus, Conradin was very ill.

* Hector Munro a.k.a. Saki was like Conradin in the story. Conradin lived with his aunt that doesn't like him. His aunt was not concerned about the life of Conradin. Saki experienced quite the same. It is because Saki lived with his aunt when his mother died and his aunt was the same as Conradin's.
