With only twenty six years in the market, Research In Motion, LTD Corporation or Blackberry, is becoming more influential in the world of technology. With the first appearance of the “smartphone,” which consists of providing fast and easy navigation through the internet and e-mail, as well as rapid communication around the world, Blackberry has created an image of prestige, especially for an executive business person. Their features simply dazzled the world of business. Moreover, their new product, the Blackberry PlayBook, promises to revolutionize how people use a personal computer with its programs that will amaze the electronic market. At the same time, their competition is fierce and fully prepared to respond in full force. Does Research in Motion have what it takes to become the number one wireless smart-phone company in the world? In order to answer this question, it is important first to examine the recent history of the company. From the beginning, Blackberry has stood tall and been proud of its products. With its new software, the Blackberry 6, the new features the company is adding are making the use of a cell phone simpler and easier. The popularity statistics show that RIM had 41% coverage in the U.S., in 2007. This was more than Apple, which only had 28%, followed by Palm, INC 9% (Vascellaro, 2008. p. B3). In the year 2010, RIM popularity dropped to fourth place in smart-phones sales, because of the new systems that entered the market. Still, RIM has more experience than other companies because it has been making smart-phones since 1999. And its competition has just modified their phones to compete against them.
