Continuing Academic Success
Succeeding academically is something many people consider to be troublesome, infrequently excessively troublesome, making it impossible to be worth attempting. However, if approached with an open mind, even though it is overwhelming, academic success can be easily achieved. Today there are many resources available in the classroom and outside the classroom which if utilized effectively can make academic success attainable. This can be accomplished by setting goals, developing your writing skills and practicing critical thinking throughout your academic journey.
Goal Setting
It has been highly recommended that one definite path to success is to set smart goals. Avoid setting outcome goals which can make individuals so restless to succeed that they find it difficult to operate in systematic way and thus fail to learn what is compelling. This can result in fear and anxiety. Therefore, it is recommended that one set smart goals which obliges individual to concentrate on understanding the task and creating a game plan for performing it viably. This helps the individual to fixate thoughts on critical thinking and ultimately high performance. (Latham,2004). When goals are too difficult to attain where procedures and timetables are yet to be acquainted with ease and positive impact of setting smart goal, It is better to plan and break goals into sub goals which will you to stay on track. Goals are like roadmaps that help you to stay on track and increase your probability of succeeding. Furthermore, there is also the motivational benefits that can be garnered from goal setting which is the driving force to ensure you succeed . We have more control when we take responsibility for our success. As one author puts it “ when people discover that they are below their goal they typically increase their effort and /or modify their strategy” ( Latham,2004,p.126).
Therefore, I have decided to set one educational goal which is to develop my writing skills and overall my communication skills. To ensure that this goal is achieved I will be utilizing all of the resources available from the Centre for Writing Excellence within the university of phoenix library. Some of these resources include the grammar and writing guides, avoiding plagiarism and following the APA format and most importantly practice writing on a daily basis.
Writing Process
Writing can seem like an intimidating task and has been the most neglected skill in the academic and working environment. Developing this skill can be your permit to better grades and greater academic achievement and this skill can make you stand out among others when seeking employment. Academicians and business people view writing skills as crucial to success and productivity. Additionally, in an academic environment the importance of adhering to the academic integrity is vital. Likewise, in the working environment one must be able to produce accurate reports or be able to write a simple letter. Misrepresentation of one skills on the resume or cover has serious consequences. This skill can be develop by following the techniques and policy to good writing. Especially, in sourcing information for academic writing outside the University of Phoenix. Some of the benefits of outside source is vast amount of resources that can lend expertise, statistics, survey, and other forms of research can make your writing more merit. The challenge is seeking outside source is determining its credibility.
