The business that I chose to talk about is Hibbett Sports. There is a huge problem with communication in this business and it needs to be addressed and solved. There was an incident in the business where an employee was moving due to her lease coming to an end. She discussed her situation with the District Manager and made a decision based off of the information she was given. Once she got out of her lease and made plans to move there was a miscommunication. The employee was told that she would be given a raise to make up for her not being reimbursed for her move. She later found out that she would not be getting a raise as discussed previously. She became upset and decided that she would call the Regional Manager and discuss the problem with him. After talking to the Regional Manager she still could get no help. Now the problem has gotten out of hand and she has started contacting other District Managers. Now the DM’s and the Regional Managers come together and get on the same page which is not to give the employee what she is asking for. We felt that the company was now looking at her as being a liability to the company and would do what was necessary to keep her from bringing the company down. She also talked to other stores and found a store that was able to help her and then start her at a pay she was satisfied with having along with a new position after a couple of months of being there which also came with an increase in pay. She later talked to her District Manager about what had happened and come to find out her previous DM was not honest about the whole ordeal that took place and just by her talking with her DM put them on the same page so that there was no confusion about what was to happen in the present or the near future.
The research strategy that I will be using is qualitative research. I will be using this strategy because it will help me to understand what the problem is and what steps will be taken in order to resolve it. “Qualitative research is the type of research people use to gain insight into a problem, issue or theory (O'Farrell, Demand Media, n.d.).” This method is preferred because you can observe the research matter in its natural setting to get a better understanding of what is taking place, how they behave on a regular basis and what steps they are taking to resolve issues. I would however prefer to do the interviewing process. By doing the interview process you can sit down and have a one on one interview with the people or person involved in the situation. “Moreover, the researcher has to be careful that he does not ask leading questions (O'Farrell, Demand Media, n.d.).”
