Human Resource Management (HRM) is an organizational function that deals with issues related to people such as compensation, hiring, organization development, safety, wellness, performance management, benefits, employee motivation, communication, administration, and training.
Challenges
There are many challenges of HRM, technological advances, information technology, and retention of employees are a few challenges that are faced in HRM.
Causes
Technology advances changes influences the nature of work and generates obsolescence (Signh, H.2013). The number of jobs have reduced that require little skill due to advanced technology, which creates unemployment and the skills that people have becomes scarce. Information technology influences HRM through human resource information systems that simplifies the process of data and makes employee information more freely available to managers. Computerized information systems primary covers two different areas which are: the use of electronic computers managerial decision-making process and future computerized information systems will have increasing impact at the coordinate and strategic levels of organization. The retention of employees is a big challenge in HRM. Dissatisfaction in pay is one of the main reason employees looks for change.
Addressing Challenges
Remedies for the challenges that will come should be effective to both the employee and the manager. Training should be required to HR and employees when there are advance technology changes. Human Resource can first determine the necessary training and implement training to ensure that workers can keep up with technical changes. Managers will also determine when to train existing employees and when it should search for new workers. Different training such as Human Resource Information System (HRIS) should be given to HR managers in case of Information Technology. The strategy of HR should be capable of flexing and adaptive changes in the economy to ensure that pay rates are in the range to afford to live according to the changes in the economy.
