Every organization has some minor details that could be improved. As technological advancements persist, it is mandatory that organizations stay up to speed with those changes. If the organization does not meet the minimal requirements of the presented customer, it is very likely that they will take their business elsewhere. Since technology has advanced to cell phones, computers, new health care equipment, etc., it is important that my home health organization stays up to par with the new technology. The advancements of technology, even include data information systems, or patient medical information systems. According to, The Benefits of Technology, technology pervades most of our daily life activities, ranging from shopping to banking to communication, etc. Another issue in my home health organization is leadership inequalities. For any organization to be successful, it should be lead by someone who has many qualities that are beneficial to the organization, and ones that others can learn from. By having a qualified leader who takes charge of any given situation and an organization that stays updated on new technological advancements, it is evident to say, that organization should prevail above others.
Many components in an organization’s structure depend upon their usage in new technology. My organization falls under the home health category, which is a profession that depends on advanced technology. Our job is to set patients up on oxygen, cpap machines, nebulizers, hospital beds, wheelchairs, etc. Many physicians and insurance companies require home health companies to present their patients with brand new and up to date machinery. My organization has an issue with this at times. We do have new machines that we present to the patients, but they are not the “newest” machines out on the market. Yes, I understand how the machines can cost more money for us, but many patients want to be involved in their care, as
much as possible. For example, there is a new cpap machine out, which is manufactured by Resmed. The machine still requires the same supplies for setup, as the other machines do. The best part of the machines that patients like is that they can download an app and take the memory card out of the machine and insert it into their computer. Data will pop up and show the patient how well they are doing on the cpap machine. If a certain number is to high, the patient will know and will directly report the information to their physician. This helps to be cost effective, as many repeated trips to the physician will cease. Another problem in my organization is that our patient information system is not as updated, as it should be. For example, if a patient has passed, there is not any way for us to know that happened. The way we find that information out is when we contact the patient to see if he needs any supplies or if we have questions to ask him. This makes me feel so bad, when the spouse tells me their partner passed, a few months ago. It feels like I am making them re-live that experience. Another issue with that system is how we receive most of our physician orders. When a physician sends a prescription to us, it either is presented via fax, or on the information system. If our computers are slow or having problems, it has been known to not receive the order, or to receive it after hours. This creates a poor view on our organization and on the physician. I feel that if we updated our technology and information systems, we would deliver optimal patient service, even above where we are now. It would also help my organization by staying updated on patient changes, such as passing away, or being hospitalized. Everyone involved would benefit from those changes.
