Organizational Structure
According to the business dictionary, organizational structure is typically a hierarchical arrangement of lines of authority, communications, rights and duties of an organization. Organizational structure determines how the roles, power and responsibilities are assigned, controlled and coordinated, and how information flows between the different levels of management. The structure of an organization all depends on how the leader of the organization wants it to flow. I chose to discuss the organizational structures of three governmental organizations. The Hillsborough County Tax Collector, the Social Security Administration, and the Hillsborough County Clerk of Court Traffic Department. I’m very familiar with the Hillsborough County Tax Collector and its process and structures because I am an employee of the Tax Collector.
Structure Differences
The Hillsborough County Tax Collector’s office (HCTC) is a government organization in Tampa Florida. At the HCTC various services are offered from renewing your vehicle license plate to purchasing a fishing license to even paying your property taxes and getting a concealed weapons permit. This organization is run by an elected Tax Collector who has an administrative assistant and it continues to branch down from Directors, to Managers, to Supervisors, to Representatives. Everyone’s main focus in the organization is one thing and that’s customer service. The mission of the organization is to “perform the duties of our office with the highest level of ethics, customer service and efficiency.” The office follows this mission to an extreme. This organization caters to the people of their county and people of different counties as well. They go above and beyond the calling of customer service to make their customers happy. Of course, in doing so they still have to remain ethically correct.
Not only does the Tax Collector cater to their customers but the elected Tax Collector also caters to his employees. Hillsborough County Tax Collectors employees are paid higher than most other county tax collectors. Also, they Tax Collector pays more than half of the employees insurance for the employee and the employee’s family. If the employee is unmarried without dependents the tax collector covers the insurance one hundred percent. That is awesome!! You cannot find many generous employees such as him anymore. Treating your employees the right way has a huge impact of the results of how your business becomes successful. Happy employees mean happy customers. I would hate to go somewhere and be treated by an angry rude customer service representative.
