Introduction
Hello everyone, my name is Viet Nguyen. Namaste, you probably wonder what I just say, just hold on to that word for a moment and I get back that word very soon. Today, I’m going to talk about Indian culture. Some of you here might know about it or might have heard about it, it’s a basic stuff, but today I’m going to talk specifically few topics. As you guys all know Indian is one of the most advanced nations in the world yet it is widely overlooked by the rest of the world. Indian has a fascinating culture. There are certain things about India that are famous worldwide.
Body
The first one is the way they greeting. Let’s take step back. Remember in the beginning of my presentation I told you the word Namaste. Is it still stuck in your mind and you still don’t know what it means. Don’t worry; i will explain exactly what it means right now.
Namaste is the form of greeting practiced most in the Indian Subcontinent. A culture convention or an act of worship. The real meeting of people is the meet of their mind. When you greet one other with Namaste, it means me and their mind meets
Normally when you say Namaste to anyone, you place both your palm together like this with all the finger pointing out and it should in front of your chest, you also bow you head a little bit and you make eye contact with the one you say Namaste. Even if you simply perform the the Namaste with your hand without saying the word it still means the same thing
The bowing down your head is a gracious form to express the friendship, respect and humility. The reason why they do this, has a deeper spiritual significant. It symbolize the belief in god, the gesture of the palm means that they honor the god and the one they meet.
It is used both while greeting and upon parting company.
Now that you guys already know the word Namaste. We will move on to the language in India
Indian has the most diverse language with over 1,000 languages being spoken at any time
More than 1000 languages spoken today in India, only 18 of them were complete
Hindi accounts for about over 40 percent of speakers in India, however, it is nor derived from brahmi script and therefore is not consider to be derived from ancient Indian culture
English accounts for about nine percent of speakers in India; It is the 2nd most common language in the country
