The Paradigm of a Healing Hospital 2
According to Mc Call (2004), spirituality deals with the transcendent that addresses ultimate questions about the meaning of life, with the assumption that there is more to life than what we sees and understand”. The traditional healing process of our hospital today is very desensitizing because it neglects the patients need for love and care. The care givers concentrate more on the physical aspect of healing. This makes caregivers to be just medical employees and not complete healers. Healing hospitals are not just meant to treat the physical aspect of the disease, but also, to treat other factors that surround the disease. Healing hospitals are not against the practice of modern medicine, but their mission is to bring a balance to the health care system where there is the integration of spiritual, physical, social and psychological aspect in the care of patients. Healing Hospitals now introduce the new paradigm to promote the level at which health care workers can adopt and integrate the principle of spiritual healing. The purpose of this paper is to establish a relationship between spirituality and a healing hospital, the challenges faced by hospitals in order to create a healing atmosphere and the biblical verses that support the paradigm.
When it comes to the issue of spirituality and healing hospitals, care givers should consider the emotional side of patients. Chapman (2003) explains that “individuals do not change into one dimensional beings when they become patients as a patient’s emotional needs expands when his or her body finds itself in a constitution that is weak”. Therefore, the treatment of patients should include love and care. The feelings care givers show when caring for the sick is very important as it helps in the healing process.
