Policing Function

The field of law enforcement has branches that oversee a range of jurisdictions, all with a common purpose: to protect citizens and enforce the laws passed by legislators at the local, state and federal level of government. Depending on where you're at, and what you're doing, different types of law enforcement agents may take an interest in your activities (Harkins, 1999-2012). There is the local police department which many states have and they are officers that can be jailers, detectives or even operator dispatchers. Their jobs are to protect citizens and enforce laws that the government passes. Then there are the states which we citizens elect who are responsible to patrol the streets such as the sheriffs or even in some states they have state police officers. They are the ones that enforce state traffic on the highways or even the confines the laws of the state institution. Finally there are the Federal governments which are various types of law enforcement agents that laws and policies are from the high government. This is from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Agency and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to the internal revenue service. They do not enforce local or state laws but contact the state or local agencies when they find any suspicious activity.
In El Paso, TX they have the El Paso Police department, The El Paso County Sheriffs, and the DEA. The El Paso County Sheriffs is sought out to be the state and federal level. The "El Paso County Sheriffs" (2012) website values the trust the public has given us and will honestly and ethically carry out our responsibilities. We will adhere to the Constitutions of the United States and the State of Texas in pursuit of community service. We will investigate and respond appropriately to all allegations of impropriety. The mission is part of and empowered by the community which protect lives, property and the rights of people and to enforce the law impartially and provide quality police service partnership with the community. These sheriff’s officers are to protect and make sure the institution is at a secure level and nothing goes out of hand.
Then we will go into the local department of the El Paso Police, there mission is "It is the mission of the El Paso Police Department to provide services with integrity and dedication, to preserve life, to enforce the law, and to work in partnership with the community to enhance the quality of life in the City of El Paso".
