Strategy to Combat Transnational Organized Crime
First off, this documentary was painful to watch. It was like the part from the Charlie brown cartoons when the adults spoke to the kids, "Wham wham wham wham blah blah." At first, I couldn't understand what the message or point was. But after a while I realized that these aging old men were talking about organized crime through out the entire world.
They were speaking about a group called U.S.A.I.D, which will be formed in hopes of beginning an institutional framework, to battle the sickness the world experiences, organized crime. They want to focus on drugs and human trafficking.
In order to combat human trafficking, they proposed using the 3 "P's," protection, prevention, and prosecution. They plan to set aside 160 million dollars worth of funds that will be put for programs to help victims and punish the traffickers.
This group believes that drugs are the main monetary source that which fuels transnational organized crime. They feel that if the government and citizens limit the need and demand for drugs, the amount of organized crime occurring through out the world would subside. U.S.A.I.D plans to work with international partners to stifle the drugs selling and manufacturing abroad and at home. They also plan to start "start at home" campaign which involves all U.S. government organization; federal and state, to come together to put an end to the drug "business".
I honestly feel like this will just amount to another failed attempt. The government tends to underestimate the level of money-hungriness people have. The "drug" outlet is a very successful business idea, if handled correctly. These entrepreneurs have families to support, so they are fueled by that.
