This is what sub plans should look like to ensure progress in the classroom during an absence.
8.30 SCIENCE
TUESDAY
We are learning about the issues involving consumption, waste, and recycling. Student’s will continue to gather data from the computers. Some students will have to share. If they do not choose a good partner to share with, you can move them around as you see fit. Everybody needs to be writing notes as they search the internet, including where they get the information from.
Write these questions on the board to guide their search:
What is recycling?
What can be recycled? What cannot be recycled?
What problems does recycling solve?
What are some problems with recycling?
They can use these questions as search queries, and you can help them ask other related questions to find more data about recycling. This can be done on Wednesday as well. IF they finish it on Tuesday then go on to:
WEDNESDAY
Write these on the board:
What are some new ways they are trying to dispose of garbage?
How are these working?
What are some ways we might dispose of waste in the future?
9.30 WRITING
Students switch classes for writing. Tell them as they come in to grab a language arts book and turn to the Don Quixote story. Pass out the Short answer Cover sheet.
TUESDAY
You will all read the relevant passage of the story together. Then you will discuss the essay question. Finally, students will find words and passages from the text that they will use to support their answer to the essay question. Remind them to cite page numbers, and paragraphs, and to use quotation marks if they are directly citing something in the text. Make sure they all write stuff down. Tell them they will write the essay on Wednesday.
