Classicism and Modernism by Pablo Picasso

Pablo Picasso is one of the famous artists of the XX century. He was painter, sculptor and co-founder of Cubism. During his life Pablo created about 20000 works and gave rise to a lot of imitators and had an exceptional impact on the development of fine arts. Picasso started painting since childhood and at 8 years old he wrote his first major oil painting “Picador”. He was making his works in different styles and all of them are amazing and you cannot find the same works. At the beginning he showed us more realistic pictures, but then he began to experiment.

One of his pictures that I like is “Portrait of Olga in the Armchair”, the original name of the picture is “Portrait d'Olga dans un fauteuil”. This portrait was written in 1917 in classicism period and the model was his wife Olga Hohlova. From the first look at this picture you can see that Picasso loved his wife and appreciated the beauty of Russian woman, because the portrait is wonderful. In this work painter showed Olga very natural and there is a secret that forces us to look at this picture again and again. Despite the fact that Olga is sitting here in a rather arbitrary position, it seems that she little awkward. She poses, but there is a sense of tension in the pose. Picture is warm, pretty and colorful. Pablo drew a lot of Olga’s portraits, for her he changed his style, became more soften and it seems that when he wrote her on his face was a smile, no aggression. Olga was tradition, conservative and respectable woman. Her influence and classical ballet helped Picasso to turn aside realistic painting. After this Pablo’s classical period began.

Another work that represents Picasso’s modernism period is “A Cat Devouring a Bird”. This picture was written in 1939 and it is a steam picture to other work “Wounded Bird and Cat”. Picasso connected this works with pre-war situation in Europe. It is a Dionysian work because in this picture you can feel death and violence,
