#1:  Influencer Model

The influencer model equips us with the proper tools for effective change and influence.  We are all trying to influence something or someone in our lives, but most times we go about it the ways we have in the past, which typically yields the same results.  The influencer model helps us change our old behavior patterns and create effective influence strategies.

We have to identify how success looks and have the end result in mind before we devise an influence strategy.  This has to be a SMART (Specific, Measurable, Action-oriented, Realistic, and Timely) goal or objective because we have to know where we’re going so that we know when we’ve arrived.  

Once we’ve identified our desired end result and before we devise an influence, we need to look at what actions will carry us through change and thus influence. These behaviors and the times these behaviors manifest are extremely important because if we study these occurrences, it will give us the information we need for our influence strategy.  We need to look at how do these moments look- What are we doing in these moments? What are the patterns in these moments?  How does the outcome from these behaviors differ from others?

When we evaluate these important behaviors and moments (vital behaviors and crucial moments), we then need to figure how to bolster these and perform them more frequently to lead to sustained change.  Looking at these behaviors through the six sources of influence, helps us develop our influence strategies.  The six sources push us to look at our ability and motivation from a structural, social, and personal perspective.  This model gives us a lens to perform a full diagnosis of what has and could prevent us from changing.  It also helps us identify what should and will lead to the change we want to see.  The model also prevents us from performing a short- sighted or abbreviated evaluation of the influence challenge.  

The influencer model provides us with a very effective, highly introspective way of influencing areas of our personal lives.  The model also helps us to influence organizations and others to change on their own volition by connecting with their motivations and abilities.  

#2: EMBA Leadership Competency

I’ve gained so much in this class, that this was a very hard question to narrow down to one answer!  The one competency that I have enhanced as a result of this class is self-knowledge.  The Deep Change and Influencer books have had a profound impact on my ability to see myself and my leadership ability from a different perspective.
