Case Management Overview
Various roles and responsibilities are a part of a case managers job. Maintaining all of the different roles regardless of the individuals they are helping or the problem they are facing, case managers must be able to handle it all professionally. This is an important aspect of every responsible case managers daily routine. Case managers work with diverse groups of individuals whether they are clients or colleagues. Most case managers use various tools and approaches to help serve, support, and encourage their clients.
Roles and Responsibilities
There are many roles that case managers play throughout their career. Many people think that case managers only find services to help their clients, but there is much more that they are responsible for. A few of the roles that case manager’s play are caregivers, teachers, advocates, outreach workers, mobilizers, community planners, and behavior changers (Mehr & Kanwischer, 2011). Case managers responsibilities play a part with each of the roles they play.
With the caregiver role, the case manager, supports the client and is concerned about their overall welfare (Mehr & Kanwischer, 2011). The teacher role assists the client in gaining, developing, and increasing their awareness of emotional behavior or intellect. The advocate role for a case manager is to support their client publicly and recommend a specific service or resource that would support their client’s progress. Outreach worker reaches out to individuals who are struggling and try to assist them in finding services that will benefit them. The mobilizer role is to get particular services that are not present in a client’s community that would better service the client if they were closer to them. A case manager might work on attaining certain services and support for their clients by asking for help from other professionals within their area (Mehr & Kanwischer, 2011). Another role that case manager’s play is a community planner. This role not only assists their clients but their community too. The responsibility is to work with community-based boards and committees to ensure that the services will be beneficial for their clients, as well as everyone else in the community (Mehr & Kanwischer, 2011). Behavior changer allows case manager’s to encourage their clients to change their negative behaviors adapt more positive ones. Behavior changers provide support for their clients and provide them with the needed tools to change their behaviors, so they are more positive (Mehr & Kanwischer, 2011). There are many roles and responsibilities that case managers have, and all of the different roles are used to support their clients in various ways.
