Name …………………. Date ……… APP ..………….
INTRODUCTION
Principle
Keywords

2. Quantitative decomposition of calcium hydroxide by calcination
Safety information

Wear gloves and protective goggles!
If the amount of water that is added to the freshly calcined calcium oxide in experiment 2 is insufficient, the temperature may rise to such an extent that the pulp (caustic lime!) may splash out of the beaker due to the sudden formation of vapour. This may lead to accidents, e.g. eye injury. This is why you must always wear protective goggles when performing an experiment.
Disposal: Collect any solutions that contain heavy-metal ions in a collecting vessel for heavy-metal salt solutions. Solid residues that contain heavy metals or their ions must also be collected in this vessel.
