Reflection Management Style
My definition for manager is a person responsible for controlling or administering all or part of a company or organization. The definition I started this course with is the same one I’m sticking to. This course has taught me a lot of new things about what a manager is but it still correlates back to my original definition.
In week one we talked about good and bad quality for a manager to have; if I’m not mistaken the qualities I said would make a good manager was having a good attitude, being blunt, empathy, accountability, and honesty. If I had to add on to my list of good qualities I would add prioritization. In my opinion you have to be able to focus on what is important when running a company. Lack of focus can lead to a company demises. A good manager has to be able to solve problems that arise but has to prioritize these issues correctly. I don’t think I would delete any of the qualities I stated in week one.
I also still agree with the list of bad qualities I talked about in week one. The list of bad qualities were being dishonest, not accountable, and having a poor attitude. I still feel as these qualities would not promote an effective workplace. I would not add to this list because I feel if a person even applied for a manager position with these bad qualities they would just throw their application in the trash. Before a person is even consider for a manager position they are being watched. I also would not remove any of the bad qualities I mentioned.
I think it is important to display these qualities not just in a work setting but at home, and even in your social environment. When you display these qualities it will make it that much easier to keep doing it in the work place. Practices makes perfect.
