The word abortion is defined as “the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus before it is viable in order to end a pregnancy” (Thefreedictionary.com). “Abortion” is for women who have unexpected pregnancies and who is not yet ready for a family. Issue and arguments are surrounded all over the world and this surgery is becoming worldwide and legal in the past decades. Abortion could help to keep undesired births at its minimum though it has a significant pessimistic effect on society and health.
Abortion is characterized into several ways which includes “spontaneous abortion”, “surgical abortion” and “medical abortion”. The most frequent abortion procedure is “surgical abortion”. It needs to be performed in the first six to sixteen weeks after a woman was pregnant. This process usually takes ten to fifteen minutes, but the patient needs to stay in the hospital for one week for further observations and recovery. In the case of China, the abortion surgery costs 1500 Yuan, which is about 250 Australian dollars. Woman need to be aware not to have sex for one month after she has taken the surgery (abortionprocon.org).
Referring to the introduction, people are more and more used to abortion especially the teenagers because it is fast and easy; however some people are totally against it. For those who are against abortion is referred as “pro-life advocates”. They propose to maintain the right of human life. On the contrary, “pro-life” are those people who do not encourage abortion. They feel that it is an action of killing helpless baby in a mother’s womb. And the baby as a human being, should have a chance to live in this world. By contrast, it is also a woman’s right to choose to have the baby or not if she is not capable to take care of this little children.
In the absence of government intervention, the rate of spontaneous abortion by maternal ages is apparently high. One of the facts that could have caused this to happen is that in many countries, especially in South and East Asia, the sex proportion standard has taken into account of the tradition favor of having sons (Fege 1987). As a result, girls have consisted to hold an abandon number. However, sex selective technology has changed the story. Birth rates of girls’ imbalance could be prevented and lowered the fertility rate nowadays.
In the case of China, the People’s Republic of China has approached family planning policy, which is also known as “one-child policy” in 1979. Their aim is to decrease family size and let the people realize that they need to have family planning after getting married. Nevertheless, if a woman got more than one children, they are forced to undergo an abortion surgery. Based on the research, it has shown that China, which has 1.3 billion populations, has prevented an extra of four hundred million births because of “one-child policy” (Wong 2012). That is why in this modern society people need to think about family planning once they get married.
