1.0 Introduction

There are many of type of companies listed in Bursa Malaysia. In this individual assignment, I was selected three companies from the same industry under consumer product category, which are Zhulian Corporation Berhad, Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad, and Apollo Food Holdings Berhad.

First of all, the background profile of Zhulian Corporation Bhd is a manufacturer and distributor of jewellery and consumer products. Company diversified its product line into various consumer products, which are food & beverage, personal care, costume jewellery, home care and so on. Company also expanded its business to Thailand, Indonesia, and Singapore.

Besides that, Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad is a dairy products and fruit juices manufacturer and distributor since the 1950 year. It changed from a single product company to multiple product company. There are many different type of consumer product produced by Dutch Lady Company, included growing up milk, UHT milk, family powdered milk, and so on. Company also export some of its product to surrounding countries in Asia and Oceania.

Furthermore, Apollo Company refers as a manufacturer and supplier of chocolate confectioneries products and layer cakes. Apollo Company was the first Malaysian company to produce layer cakes and chocolate confectionery products. Its international business partners also located in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and so on.

The main purpose of conducting this assignment is because of analysing and evaluating the financial performance of these three companies in the same industry line. After that, used 5 years financial ratio make a performance comparison between three of them. Company use ratio analysis to identify their weakness and strength.

There are few steps used by me to complete my assignment. Firstly, I was instructed to download and collect income statement, cash flow, balance sheet, and key metric of Apollo, Zhulian and Dutch Lady Company from the software, Thomson Reuters Eikon. Subsequently, compare the five major types of financial ratio, which are profitability, Du pont or earning power, liquidity, leverage and operating from year 2011 to 2015.

Operating margin is a key indicator used by investor to evaluate a company management’s efficiency and pricing strategy. In other words, it used to measure a company’s earnings after paying all the variable or fixed cost of company.
