(For example) Introduction - Background of the problem or curiosity, significance of the project, how it is related to intercultural communication, goal of the project, the method of the project Contents:Names are given and attached to a person which contains meanings and history.Throughout regions and cultures they are large variety of names and their structure,which is interesting to analyze.During intercultural interaction, there might be a need to change how you address someone especially in different cultural environment. |
2. Indonesia Names structure in Indonesia follows the western names structure in which : First name ,Last name(ex: Christopher Hermawan).Historically, it is normal to only has one name(no family name) in most Indonesian regional culture but as western influences come to Indonesia,it becomes more common to inherit their family name.Popular names in Indonesia usually comes from Sanskrit language(ex: Budi, which means intellect in Sanskrit),which is a lingua franca and literary language in Medieval South East Asia and primary language in Hinduism,Buddhism and Jainism.At the core, Indonesian names usually holds meaning which is similar to Asian-language names such as Japanese and Chinese names, compared to western names, which popular names came from characters around the history and bible. It is very common for Indonesians to have a name longer than 2 words, example : Muhammad Qaedi Auzan Rafif, Muhammad Fikri Azka.That is the name only in paper rather, it is known to be rude if you call someone with their full first name(unless it’s only two syllables) and in Bahasa its sounds really unfitting, thus Indonesians really prefer nicknames for practical and cultural purpose.These Indonesian affections for first names could reflect that Indonesians are socially minded,casual,friendly and open to other people.The friendly tone of this cultural name structure is a beneficial to preserve the Indonesia mottos of ‘Bhinneka Tunggal Ika’ which means ‘Unity in Diversity’. In Indonesia, academic titles(such as Master,Ph.D) and religious titles(especially : Haji) are important, and it is common to add in their names.While academic titles are often written in formal letters and some identification device, religious titles such as Haji is used commonly in the daily life of Indonesians. |

Name and generational When the Chinese are named, they often use several methods in their names to distinguish the different generations of the same family. For example, using one word in a name to represent a generation, and another word for the meaning of the name. There are also the same points in the name of the same family. Name and taboo Because of the influence of patriarchal law in ancient China, there was a taboo system in the use of names. It is a good thing to do "to be a good person, to be a good person." Conclusions (Summarize your findings, weakness of the project, what need to be done to solve the issues, etc.) These different names and way of addressing people with their name are unique and we hope that our readers could understand a glimpse of their friends’ name and how to address acquintance from a specific background culture.We hope to have more time to refine this project.We would like to do more research and find their differences with example. |
