Effects of Working in High School

Having a job in school is seen as a sense of maturity, but is it secretly harming the students and depriving them from a social life and a future in schooling career choices? My personal interest project identifies and examines the effects of having a job in senior schooling, and the difference between male and female. My topic will contribute to the understanding of past and present students who believe their results were getting affected due to having a job during school. I will also research the difference in males and females change in results and attitudes towards doing school work after working in a job. By using gender differences and work and leisure in my Personal Interest Project I can relate to the society and culture course.
In chapter one I will look into the amount of work that can affect mental capabilities such as stress levels. This chapter will include the need of time management skills and the struggles students can come across in the later years of schooling. Likewise in chapter two I research the reason behind working in the later years of high school and the effect it can have on a student’s leisure activities and lifestyle choices. My final chapter will explain the difference between the experiences shared by an older female who has finished school and a male who has also finished school; these participants have to have had a job in senior schooling. The participants have to fit into the specific criteria for them to be able to be a part of my case study
The methodologies I have used for my personal interest project is a survey which was handed around to the senior students (10-12) around the school. I will also ask people who have already experienced all the school work and stress of juggling it with working. Asking people who have already experienced the effects will also bring a time element into my personal interest project.
