Elderly abuse is on the rise and it happens where ever a elderly may live. Most of the one who I committing the abuse are known family members and caregivers. There are many different types of abuse from physical abuse , financial, emotional, sexual and even neglect. Noticing the signs of elderly abuse are injuries, such as scars, bruises, welts, broken bones, restrained this would fall under physical abuse. Emotional abuse consist of belittling, and threatening the aging person. Neglect states if and elder has untreated physical problems such as bed sore, unsanitary and unsafe living conditions and financial exploitation signs are withdrawals for their bank accounts and unexpected changes within their bank accounts (Robinson, December 2016).
Self- neglect this requires making sure the older adult has good medical services and make she their home is clean and they are not living in dirty living conditions. Also make sure that if they cannot take care of themselves that they have the adequate caregivers. Making sure they go to their doctors appointment on time and getting their medications and any other services they would need for example eyeglasses and dental appointments. Then there is sexual abuse and this is a form of contact of nonconsecutive sexual contact. For example of touching that is inappropriate and making the aging adult to look at pornography and taking pictures in a suggestive way. Financial exploitation is taking and misusing funds and assets and property of an older adult without their knowing . This is a mender one growing concern with internet scams and phone call and also mail. Then with family members and friends and strangers fall the second place when it comes to exploitation. This comes along with home equity loans and identity theft and also investment scams and homicide for profit (Denise Kindschi Gosselin, 2012).
Social policy, relay on self-awareness becomes the foundation for professional development and should be based on by professional supervision and organizational administration.
