Course Outline
This module introduces students to the specific legal, institutional and cultural dimensions of industrial relations in Germany. Particular attention will be paid to the most recent challenges to the system posed by globalisation and German unification. This course is taught entirely in German.
Assessment: Exam 67%/ Project 33%
Assessment will take the form of a seminar presentation as well as an examination at the end of the course. For the presentation students will be expected to work in a group preparing a case-study on a specific development in the industrial relations system of Germany in recent years. Each group must also produce a summary document [Thesenpapier] of the key argumentation in German, which must be distributed to the rest of the class.
Your Thesenpapier (not longer than 2 A4 pages) must contain the main arguments made in relation to your case study and a bibliography. Parts of this document may be in bullet point form. It is not strictly mandatory but would be helpful if you included a vocabulary list of less familiar words and phrases. For seminar topics, see weeks seven to ten.
