Girl Thrown from Desk

This past week a 16-year-old student, by the name of Shakara from Spring Valley High School in Columbia, South Carolina was thrown from her desk by an officer. There were students who witnessed Richland County Sheriff’s deputy violently attack the young female student.
First of all, the only reason the cop went in the classroom was, because the teacher caught her with her phone out and had asked her to put it away and go to the office. She obeyed orders of putting the phone away, however she did not go to the office, because she believed it was an unfair punishment. She was then instructed by her teacher and vice principal once again to exit the room and when she did not do so they called in Senior Deputy Ben Fields, a school resource officer, to come in and deal with her. When Shakara did not follow Field's instructions to leave the classroom that’s when things got violent. He wrapped his arm around her neck and tried to pull her from her desk, which flipped backward to the floor. He dragged her out of the desk, threw her across the floor, and arrested her for disturbing the classroom. The deputy was fired this past Wednesday after the video recorded by one of the student’s that showed him flipping her. The agency's training unit looked at video of the incident and determined Fields did not follow proper training and procedure.
Shakara now has a hard cast on her right arm, a swollen neck, back and shoulder, as well as carpet burn on her forehead. Not only is she physically hurt from what happened to her, but she is also emotionally and mentally hurting. In an interview with the New York Daily News, her lawyer said that Shakara is a recent orphan who lost her mother and is currently living in a foster home. This girl can be going through depression, but because she is a women of color they aren’t going to say/diagnose her with depression, they will say that she had a bad attitude.
