"Gourmet Food for a Distinctive Occasion"

Syrian people and all Muslims all over the world celebrate Eid Al Adha in the 10th of Dhul Hijja by sacrificing a sheep and cook it, then serve it with rice as it happens in the Middle East or with some other stuff. This occasion dates back to the time of Prophet Ibrahim- peace be upon him - when he sacrificed a sheep, that was sent to him from heaven, instead of his son Ishmael - peace be upon him. This paper will describe the celebration and the dishes that are served on it.

During this celebration, people do many activities. First of all, they wake up in the early morning, and then they go to Musalah al Eid to perform a special prayer of Eid al Adha. After the prayer people sacrifice a sheep which they have already bought for this occasion. Also, they cut the carcass into pieces and distribute some of it to the relatives, neighbors and poor people, too. Later, they begin to visit each other in their houses. Children can receive lots of money from their parents and kindred as a gift.

Syrian people serve the cooked sheep beside a delicious dish called tabullah and Mojadarh. To prepare Mojadarh they soak some lentil in water for a while. After that they put the lentil into boiling water for 20 minutes, and they add some grouts to it. In the meantime, they peel and chop onions into thin slices and fry it with olive oil and they add some salt until it gets blush. Finally, when the lentil and the grouts get sits they mix them with the fried onion. Usually they add some condiments like cumin to the dish to make it tastier.

In conclusion, Syrian people celebrate this ceremony by doing lots of activities and serving scrumptious dishes like Mojadarh. Some people say that this occasion is more interesting for children than adults. However, this celebration means a lot to the
