Scenario 1
By the 1900s many hospitals were accused of up coding patients charts in order to increase reimbursement from Medicare. The doctors knew the risk they were taking but some saw it as an opportunity to get money for equipment for the office. Up loading is a risk taken by the administration and is close alignment between behavior of the staff.
Medical bills are prepared by medical coders. These coders uses the ICD-9 code that the physician puts on the chart concerning the patient condition. Up coding is illegal and fraudulent. It can cost taxpayers and premium payers lots of money and a persons health care could be effected by a negative mark on their health records. This can cause it to be hard for a person to get insurance in the future. Up coding will cause for insurance premiums to go up as well. Some coders have quite their job because they say it is unethical to up code.
Scenario 2
As a health care professional she should be more aware of what she is doing. What if the doctor had came in and looked at the patients chart and decided to give him more medication. She has marked it on his chart that she gave him more than she was suppose to. A patients chart is a way of communicating with the medical team. A nurse must make sure that a patients chart is accurate at all times.
The nurse that gave the wrong amount of medicine may be afraid to tell because she is in fear of loosing her job, begin written up, suspended, or even fired. Other reason are that she may be feeling quilts for her actions. This nurse could also be watching this patient to make sure that nothing happens to them through the night. She could have to face the State Board Of Nursing. This nurse may also face a lawsuit and one for the hospital also. She could also could be jailed for this for a long time.
Scenario 3
To stop discrimination in the workplace the CEO must get behind get involved and stick with it. The CEO must be able to walk the walk and talk the talk of no discrimination. First the upper management must set goals and rules for diversity and make it known to every employee. Make sure that they understand that discrimination will not be tolerated and that there are consequences for not following them.
Once this is accomplished a company can start handing out policies outlining what the guidelines of what will happen if discrimination takes place. A company can also have a training class on discrimination. Explain how the company will have a monetary gain for begin diversity and give rewards and compensation for the success of a diversified company. A company can have a potluck and have each member to bring a food from their culture and tell about it or thir religious belief. Also have counsel meeting to talk about the experience in the workplace and make suggestions to do better. Lastly encourage the employees to report anyone who is discriminating against anyone. Make sure everyone follows the rules.
