Can we measure Giftedness only by IQ tests?. Identifying gifted students is one of the important step in gifted education process. It is the main entrance to gifted programs (Alsubiai,2009). It is a process that we expect to identify all kinds of gifted including those who have low achievement or poor students who don't have any of gifted signs (Baska.2003). Having high mental ability is not enough evidence to have giftedness. Student should have certain levels of different abilities to considered as a gifted (Renzulli, 1999).
There are many specialists in gifted education field who believe in IQ tests like ( Stanford Bient and Wechsler) as an only tool to identify gifted students. Although the wide popularity to these tests among specialists, but because they have an upper limit of intelligence degree, specialists consider that as a flaw (Davis, 2006). Intelligence is not the only sign of giftedness, beside, low IQ doesn't mean that student is not gifted (alasar, 2010). Intelligence tests ignore personal characteristics for gifted students. For example, it may not detect the emotional characteristics for gifted students. In addition, it cannot identify the level of motivation in gifted students. IQ tests don't provide an enough information about individual behavior and abilities about them (wahba, 2007).
During seventies of this century, a quantum leap appeared in gifted education field. ( Theory of successful intelligence) was created by (Sternberg). According to his theory, Successful intelligence is an integrated system that consists of range of abilities that we need it to success in life. Sternberg states that ability to succeed is an individual's ability to take advantage of his strengths and to amendment his weaknesses (Sternberg, 2003a). According to Sternberg, intelligence people is who have a balance in using three main abilities. First, Analytic ability, this ability is connecting with solving problems process, evaluating, criticism and clarifying differences. The people who have this ability are get a high scores in IQ tests (Sternberg & Grigorinko, 2002). Second, Creative ability, Sternberg states that creative people have a high ability in intuition, clairvoyance and adapt to unfamiliar situations (Sternberg & Grigorinko, 2011). From Sternberg's opinion, he believes that we can measure this ability by missions like writing short stories, drawing pictures and drafting advertisements. Wherefore, creative people are usually have achievements in trading, engineering and marketing (aljughaiman, 2010). The third ability is Practical ability, that an able people to take advantage from analytic and creative abilities to adapt with daily life conditions. Practical people are able to apply their creative ideas after they analyzed it (Sternberg, 2005a).
