How does the art make you feel?
JMW Turner “The Burning of the Houses of Parliament”
JMW Turner’s “The Burning of the Houses of Parliament illustrates a work of art from a very talented painter whose use of lines and colors were unique. Turner had a great interest in types of architecture, and this painting is no different. In this work, there are very clear details of water, clouds, and fire. The artist wants you to feel like you are in the midst of the action. In the painting, we can see the English parliament burning and the crowd is in the background observing. The first thing that draws you in is the color of the flames. The flames make you feel hot and warm. The colors never lose their intensity. You can almost feel the heat coming off the canvas.
Turner was never interested in sharp contrast. He used a blend of colors with this painting. He definitely wanted to live in the moment with this painting. His use of paint was impasto, more realistic. His use of color had ephemeral effects.
The shapes he used give you a feeling of endlessness. Light was easily penetrated into the painting to give it a vivid effect.
Different emotions went into this painting. You can definitely see by the use of color that Turner wanted others to pay attention to what was going on. You can use your own imagination to decide what this picture is about. If you were not familiar with the painting, you would know that this was something that the artist wanted to stand out.
