1) Choose one lifestyle disease discussed in class and explain how YOU can limit YOUR risk of developing that disease.
Answer:
One lifestyle disease that we discuss in class was cardiovascular disease (CVD). It is the leading cause of death in the US, for Men and Women. This disease causes the most deaths compared with other lifestyle disease. The economic cost of CVD is $432 billion dollars per year and includes medical expenses and lost wages. There are four common types of heart disease they include arteriosclerosis, coronary heart disease, stroke, and hypertension. All of these types deal with CVD and can cause many risk factors to a person’s health.
Although heart disease remains the number one killer in the United States, the incidence of heart disease has declined in the past 30 years. The reduction in Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) has occurred because most people have modified their behavior to reduce their risk factor for CHD. We can reduce are risk of developing CVD by not smoking, by controlling your blood pressure, by eating a healthy diet, by being physically active, and by reducing your stress level. All of these are a good ways to reduce CVD

2) Discuss why you think the incidences of lifestyle disease have become so prevalent in our society and what changes should be made to address this issue.
Answer:
Physical inactivity and living a sedentary lifestyle are the main reasons why lifestyle diseases are becoming so prevalent in our society today. Today’s society because of improvement in technology is causing people to live a more sedentary lifestyle. People nowadays tend to be lazier because of the convenience of laptops, I-Pods, video games etc, which causes people to be less physically active. All of these increase the risk of people becoming more prone to develop a lifestyle disease. Also other environmental factors can have an effect on why lifestyle diseases are becoming so prevalent. They can include pollution or being exposed to second hand smoke which can lead to cancer of the lungs.
The changes that can be made to reduce these issues is to encourage people to be more physically active. Also encourage sedentary people to stop being lazy, and start to do more
