In a word, Multicultural society is community that people from different race and ethnic group lives together. People in Korea usually remind an international marriage between Korean men and foreign women from elsewhere in Asia. But we have to broaden our perspective. World are going to global and cultures are exchanged lively. Every single event should be reinterpreted in wide vision. In developed multicultural society, various racial and cultural minorities' right is guaranteed. It respects not only emigrant but also several minority of society. In multicultural society, various members' cultural production promotes diversity and whole society's quality.

Multicultural society can be re-explained in modern, political, cultural sense.

In the past, Korean people regarded homogeneous as important and emphasized unification as well. Over the time period, however, cultural diversity in Korea increased rapidly. As UN's recommendation said, Korean people should accept the fact that Korea is no more "homogenous country", but multicultural society. Now people from all over the world lives in Korea. Therefore multicultural issue has become an important phenomenon. Above all things, Korean government are paying attention to multicultural issue also. Because international marriage has been risen around from 1990's to 2000's and multi-ethnic families living in Korea are increased. Korea becomes to multi-cultural society in a short period, because of several causes: foreign workers, marriage immigrants, and refugees from North Korea. So, adoption of our culture and language were critical problems to aliens and the authority. In Korea, there are some types of multi-ethnic families. Generally the representative case is family generated by international marriage. In 2010, there were 35000 multi-cultural marriages. It was increased 3.7 percent, year-on-years. The portion among the total marriage is 10.8 percent. Of course, some families are made up of Korean woman and foreign man, but the majority of intercultural marriages are between Korean men and foreign women from the Southeast Asia.
