Statement of Purpose
By WANG Shujun
M.Sc. (Industrial & Systems Engineering)
National University of Singapore
As far as I am concerned, I deem myself ‘a man of thought’. It is my constant thinking that has been inspiring my appetite for and persevering pursuit of knowledge. Further, it is through such a pursuit that I have been tempering myself and adding value to my life. I am unmistakably aware that if I would love to add even more value to my life, I should never be complacent about what I have learned and achieved heretofore as an undergraduate. Instead, I should seek more advanced education in a bid to scale new heights academically and to build a firm foundation for my career advancement in the future. Hence, I am writing this statement in support of my application for acceptance into the Master’s programme in Industrial & Systems Engineering at your university.
Currently, I am a senior student at XX University (XXU) [an institution enjoying prestigious academic reputation in the teaching and research of engineering in China], majoring in XXX. Over the past three years, I received extensive training which was both rigorous and vigorous in my chosen field of subject, thereby obtaining not only a thorough understanding of a wide variety of fundamental issues pertinent to electric power generation, transmission and distribution, but also a sound technical background in electro-technics and electronics, computer science and system and control engineering. In the heavy and competitive coursework, I relied on arduous efforts and efficacious study strategies to maintain an average overall GPA of nearly 3.5/5 [or 85/100 in accordance with the grading system of our university]. This contributed to my being bestowed with an array of academic awards including several different types of scholarships on the one hand and, on the other hand, perhaps more importantly, qualified me as one of very few students within our department to attend the ‘Outstanding Engineers Class’ [an educational programme designed specifically to train high calibre engineering talents in possession of strong theoretical and hands-on abilities]. My excellent performance during the undergraduate time has convinced me that I will produce equally fruitful scholarly work in my proposed degree programme if I set my mind to it.
