Sam's Story

Sam is not a very outstanding student when he was in college , No one thinks he is the person who has confidence and ambition. Since his major is Japanese, he was employed by a Sino-Japanese joint ventures as a salesman after graduation. Sam is quite satisfied with this job for the high and fixed salary. So he won’t worry about fall behind others due to untrained. If he works on commission, it is a shame for him to earn less than others.
During first two year, Sam worked very hard but the sell records were nothing to brag about. With growing knowledge of relevant work and customers, his sales went up gradually. In the third year, he was in the top 20 among all the salesman in his company. Sam was confident to became the top one next year. But he was not so sure because of the company’s policy. They won’t announce each person’s sales figure, and also don’t encourage the comparison between employees.
Last year, San did so well. Despite the sales quota increased by 25%, he has completed the work by early September. As he knew, no one else has finished the quota. In October, Sam is asked to report to his Japanese manager. After hearing Sam’s report with fluent Japanese, the manager was very polite and congratulate on him for all he have achieved. Before Sam left, the manager said “ If only our company got more sales stars like you.” Sam smiled and knew he was acknowledged as outstanding salesman in the company. This year, the sales quota for him increased again. Although it’s more difficult than before, Sam is still ahead.
But he is in a bad mood. The most annoyed thing is that the company doesn’t reflect about the performance of employees. Meanwhile he heard two other joint ventures held sales competition s and prize-winning activities. One company’s manager invited the best salesman to dinner .What’s more, the company gets its own newspaper for every employee to know sales status and prize the best sale.
